Coastal Town Turns Old Rail Line Into a 40-Kilometre Cycling Path

Residents of Port Alden woke up on Saturday to find the long-abandoned rail corridor along the northern shore transformed into a paved cycling path, the first section of a project that has been in planning for nearly a decade.
The town council said the path would connect three villages that currently have no direct bus service. Local shops near the old stations have already reported more weekend visitors, with some extending their opening hours to keep up.
Construction of the remaining sections is scheduled to finish next spring, weather permitting. Officials plan to add rest areas, bike repair stations and lighting for evening riders.
